COSMETIC DENTISTRY
Innovative dental techniques can undoubtedly create a more youthful
and attractive look. In many cases veneers have been placed to
correct damaged, discoloured and irregular teeth-miraculously
improving the overall appearance.
Crowns and bridges, too, have come a long way over recent years,
latest porcelain enable them to be stronger and more natural
looking.
White fillings have replaced the old mercury once making them
indistinguishable from the teeth.
White Fillings
Tooth coloured fillings can be chosen to match the colour of the
teeth, making them a natural-looking alternative to amalgam
fillings.
Tooth coloured fillings are often used in teeth that show during
smiling or talking. They aren't as durable as amalgam, and so they
aren't always suitable for the grinding and chewing surfaces of the
back teeth. |

There are a few different types of tooth coloured filling materials.
The most common are called composite and glass ionomer. They are
soft and can be moulded to look like the shape of a tooth before
they are hardened, usually using a blue light. Tooth coloured
filling materials stick to teeth, so they can be used to build up
the edges of chipped or worn teeth.
Composite shrinks very slightly under the blue light. This can pull
on the tooth and may cause sensitivity. It can also produce a tiny
gap between the filling and the tooth that may lead to further
decay.
The Root Canal Treatment
Endodontics or root-canal treatment involves removing damaged or
dead nerves and blood vessels in the root of the tooth that have
become infected due to decay or trauma. The space left is then
filled with a material that seals the tooth and keeps it functioning
as before.
Dental Implants
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium that a
dentist gently places into your jaw. Dental implants are ideal for
people in good oral health who have lost one or more teeth. We know
how confidence about your teeth can affect how you feel about
yourself, both personally and professionally. Perhaps you hide your
smile because of spaces due to missing teeth. Maybe your dentures
don't feel secure. Perhaps you have difficulty chewing. If you would
like to smile, speak and eat again with confidence, there is good
news!
Gum Disease
Periodontal disease affects teeth, gum and the bone that surrounds
the teeth. Most people who have periodontal disease are rarely aware
of it. It’s very often not painful, especially in the early stages.
The main cause is accumulation of plaque. Plaque is the sticky food
and bacteria that forms constantly on your teeth.
Bleeding is a sign of infection -- Healthy Teeth Don't Bleed.
Vaneers
A veneer
is a very thin layer of porcelain, similar to a finger nail,
specifically fabricated in the dental laboratory for each individual
tooth. As with all exclusively fabricated technical work, this
process demands an extremely high degree of skill and artistic
talent. We work closely with the dental laboratory at each stage of
the production process to ensure your veneer fits and matches the
colour of your surrounding teeth perfectly.
The veneer is bonded onto the front surface of the tooth to improve
its cosmetic appearance. Veneers can enhance the colour, close
unsightly gaps or even change the shape of individual teeth.

Crowns
When a
tooth has become grossly destroyed it may become necessary to cover
and protect the remaining tooth with a crown (sometimes known as a
cap). This can either be made of gold, porcelain-fused-to-metal or
pure reinforced all-porcelain. In addition to protecting damaged
teeth crowns also improve the cosmetic appearance of your smile.
Your dental crown is typically placed over two visits. Firstly, your
damaged tooth will be prepared and an impression mould of your mouth
taken. The mould is then sent to the dental laboratory to fabricate
the crown. During this period a temporary crown is provided. On your
second visit, your new crown will be permanently fitted.
Dentures & Partial Dentures
If you do
not have any of your natural teeth left then you will benefit from
having dentures as they provide structure to your smile and prevent
surrounding facial muscles from sagging. In addition to dentures,
bridges and dental implants can be used to replace missing teeth.
We offer the highest quality dentures fabricated to our
specification by our dental laboratory.
As an alternative to conventional metal and chrome based dentures we
also offer flexible cosmetic dentures by Costech, these dentures can
in some cases eliminate the need for unsightly metal clasps and
provide a good cosmetic result.
Fixed Bridges
A bridge
is a fixed device that spans the gap between two teeth and replaces
the missing teeth. It is supported and retained in position by the
adjacent teeth. It is normally used if the supporting teeth are
surrounded by strong healthy bone and when the gap is not too wide.
Alternative treatments to replace missing teeth include full or
partial dentures and dental implants.
Inlay Restorations
An inlay restoration is a custom made filling made of composite
material, gold, or tooth-coloured porcelain. It is made by a
professional dental laboratory and is permanently cemented into the
tooth by your dentist.
Botox
Facing up to it: dermal and facial rejuvenation
As your skin ages, it loses its natural collagen and hyaluronic
acid. This weakens your skin’s structure and appearance. Dermal
treatments reintroduce either of these two substances to the skin to
smooth out wrinkles, frown lines or folds on your face. Collagen and
hyaluronic acid can also be used to resculpt your lips, making them
look fuller or reducing the wrinkles around them.
The facial rejuvenation treatments even use your own skin cells to
stimulate the production of your skin’s natural collagen in the
problem areas.
Our practice offers these treatments from fully trained healthcare
professionals, letting you add another dimension to your dental
makeover for a dramatic new look.
The Botox anti-wrinkle treatment can smooth out age-related wrinkles
such as crows feet, frown lines or lines on the forehead. It works
in a different way than the injected gels and the effects last
between 3 – 5 months.
